Established in 1965, The San Antonio
Choral Society is an 80-person mixed-voice community chorus, open to adult and
talented high school singers. The mission of the choir is to foster the joy of
choral music by providing an opportunity for men and women to perform a wide
range of innovative and diverse programs in a variety of venues, and to be a
visible and viable part of the San Antonio arts community.
Recently, the ensemble has performed such choral masterworks as Mozart’s Requiem, Bernstein’s
Chichester Psalms, Duruflé’s Requiem, Brahms’ Liebeslieder Walzer, Orff’s
Carmina Burana, John Rutter’s Mass of the Children, Robert Rays’ Gospel Mass and
premiered new commissions by Jerome Malek, Leslie Hogan, and James Syler. We
have collaborated with local and nationally-recognized musical artists to
provide unique and high quality performances in the San Antonio community, and
have been featured at numerous events such as Luminaria, the return of the
Travis Letter to the Alamo, the Oblate School of Theology Commencement, Spurs
basketball games, the New Year’s Eve Celebration at Sea World, and the Texas
Choral Directors Association annual convention.
Let us reawaken your musical passion and inspire your enjoyment of choral works
both new and old during our extraordinary 2013-2014 season. Please revisit our
website regularly to find information about our concerts and to see all the
exciting things we are doing. In the summer of 2014, we are looking forward to
embarking on a spectacular 10-day choir tour of Bavaria and Austria!
